Don't throw away hard brown sugar, tips to soften it

Baking time is here again and if you haven't touched your brown sugar since last baking season it might be hard as a rock, never fear you don't have to throw it out. Here's some ideas: try placing your brown sugar with a fresh slice of bread or a couple of apple slices in an airtight container, leave overnight if it's soft in the morning remove the bread or apples, if it's still hard try one more night. If you need the brown sugar immediately try putting the sugar in a bowl with a loose lid in the microwave, place a small bowl of water next to the sugar, microwave for 1 minute if it's still hard try 30 seconds more just be careful not to melt the sugar.
